Product Safety
Thanks for choosing Made For Dogs. Our goal is to help you and your dog explore safely and confidently. The guidance below applies to all Made For Dogs (MFD) products and to partner-brand products we sell. Please read before first use and keep for reference.
Start with the right product
Choose gear that matches your dog’s size, strength, temperament, and activity (daily walks, trail work, vehicle travel, etc.). When in doubt, select the more robust option and contact us for advice before use.
Sizing & fitment (read this before you buy)
Each product page lists brand-provided sizing, weight ranges, and suitability. Because specs vary by model and manufacturer, always rely on the details shown on that product’s page.
- Measure accurately (girth, neck, back length as applicable) and compare to the size chart on the page.
- Every dog is unique. Breed labels are only a starting point—chest depth, coat, body shape, age, and behavior all affect fit.
- Customer diligence: It’s your responsibility to select the correct size and configuration for your dog. If information is missing or you’re unsure, reach out and we’ll help.
- On arrival: Try on indoors, adjust per the instructions, check for even contact and ample clearance, and monitor closely during initial use. Discontinue use if the fit isn’t secure or comfortable.
Acclimation & supervision
Introduce new gear gradually with praise or treats. Supervise at all times until you’re confident in the fit and your dog’s behavior with the product. Never leave a dog unattended in gear not specifically designed for unattended restraint or confinement.
Vehicle travel & transport compliance
Use travel gear (e.g., harnesses or tethers) only as directed and attach to approved anchor points. Always follow your local and state transport laws. For details, see our Transport & Use Compliance page. Do not ride dogs in open beds or exposed areas unless your jurisdiction’s legal requirements are fully met and the product is specifically rated for that application.
Proper use & limits
- Use products only for their intended purpose and within stated weight/strength limits.
- Not a chew toy: Remove gear if your dog attempts to chew it.
- No tie-outs unless the product explicitly states it is rated for tie-out duty.
- Consider conditions (heat, cold, abrasion, water). Dry gear thoroughly after exposure to moisture and salt; avoid prolonged UV/storage in hot vehicles.
Inspection, care & maintenance
- Before and after each use: Check webbing, stitching, buckles, carabiners, padding, and attachment points.
- Clean as directed on the product page or label; avoid harsh chemicals and high heat.
- Store clean, dry, and away from direct sun.
When to retire/replace
Immediately stop using and replace any item showing: frayed or cut webbing, loose or popped stitches, cracked or deformed buckles, bent/warped hardware, corrosion that affects function, significant abrasion, or any change that prevents secure adjustment or closure.
Modifications & add-ons
Do not modify products or combine with unapproved accessories. Unauthorized alterations, drilling, sewing, or hardware swaps can compromise safety and may void warranties.
Warranties & partner brands
- Made For Dogs products: Covered under our warranty terms (see Warranty page).
- Partner-brand products: Each brand sets its own warranty and use instructions. We’ll honor those policies and may assist or direct you to the brand for claims, per their process.
Issues, incidents, or questions
Stop use immediately if something seems off. Contact us with your order number, description of the issue, and photos/video of the product and fit so we can help troubleshoot or replace if applicable.
